My Approach to Therapy

When you attend a therapy session, you are often looking for something. Direction, clarity... This is why figuring out whether a therapist has the right approach for you, is very important. When I say approach, I don't just mean which modalities they practice in (the types of therapy they offer). I am talking about how your therapist shows up in the room and how this feels for you. The therapeutic relationship is the number ONE predictor of change in therapy, so connecting with your therapist is essential!

Authenticity is important to me.

I believe therapy works best when you are brave enough to be yourself and show up honestly. My hope is that you feel understood, challenged when appropriate, and supported in all our sessions together. I show up from an authentic stance of curiosity and my aim is to connect with you to help you develop self-trust and confidence to navigate hazy moments in a way that feels authentic to who you are. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach and I am flexible with creating a space that works for you.

I pay close attention to what is happening emotionally.

While the challenges and concerns you bring to therapy are important to hear, I am often more interested in what is sitting beneath them. Much of my work is informed by Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), which means I pay attention not only to what you're saying, but also to what you're feeling. Whether you are navigating persistent anxiety symptoms, tricky dynamics in your relationship or just feeling stuck, my approach to working with emotion brings clarity forward. This can look like holding space for you to explore difficult emotions, unpacking your experiences or providing supportive strategies to equip you with skills to navigate hazy moments differently.

I focus on patterns.

Perhaps this is a part of how my 'neuro-spicy' brain works, but patterns are something I place a lot of focus on! I am quick to pick up on them and find that acknowledging patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving are often helpful when you are feeling stuck in life. By acknowledging these patterns, understanding where they come from and why they function the way they do, you can unlock insights into what choices you could make in the future. A common place this exploration happens is within my Women's Anxiety Groups, where women collaboratively face these patterns and practice different ways of managing their anxiety.

We regularly reflect on your progress.

Change doesn't look the same for everyone. Reflecting on the smaller internal shifts that occur, allows you to see how far you have progressed. I am always following up regarding how previous sessions felt and what has been brewing between sessions. My favourite question (albeit sometimes difficult to answer) is, "What do you need?" I find this question to be insightful and helpful when navigating conflict and difficulty within relationships too. It is an important skill to be able to listen to what you are needing, emotionally or otherwise, and to communicate this with others. This is something I support many of my clients with, within individual and couples counselling sessions.

Ready to work with me?

Therapy isn't about becoming someone different. It's about understanding yourself more deeply, making sense of your experiences, and creating space to show up differently in your life and relationships. Finding the right therapist is an important part of the process, and I hope this has given you a sense of what it might be like to work together. If my approach resonates with you, I'd love to hear your story and explore how we can work towards the changes you're hoping for!
